For example, religious places have played a special role in the propagation of India's religion and culture. In the medieval period, religious places built in countries like Azerbaijan, Russia etc. were mainly built by traders, due to which the business of travel started and culture also spread in that area. Indian traders had taken their lifestyle along with Indian goods there, following which they built temples there, which even after being recorded in history, still connect their roots with India.
Even after studying the culture of ancient India in
detail, it is known that temples were not just a pilgrimage site but they were
a community place. Even today it can be seen in South India that in the
construction of many talukas, a temple was established in the centre and after
that residential and commercial areas were built.
Its authentic mention is found in the inscriptions of the
Brihadeshwara temple of Tamil Nadu and the temple built before the Kudisi
mosque of Bhopal. Along with education, health services, food, hostel, rest,
money deposit and loan facilities were also made available in the temple
premises, temples were a type of bank. Due to which temples were centres of
public welfare along with being a pilgrimage site and also the centre of the
economy of a specific region.
India Growing With Spiritual Economy
Today, the new India is also taking the economy built
through this temple to the nationwide and global level. Development work
automatically takes place around the places where there are temples, in ancient
India every region used to get money from these pilgrimage sites. Due to the
attractive craftsmanship, grandeur, supernatural idols in every temple, these
were spiritual as well as tourist places. This system was in place all over
India.
The policy of uplifting the economy through temples is
called 'Temple Economy'. Today, this 'Temple Economy' is also increasing
India's GDP. According to the research of the National Sample Survey Office
(NSSO), today this temple economy is contributing 3.02 lakh crores to India's
economy at the national level, while it contributes 2.32 percent to India's
GDP.
NSSO research has stated that 87 percent of the tourists
or devotees visiting temples or pilgrimage sites in India are Indians and 13
percent are foreigners or Indians living abroad. Every year, a business of 4.74
lakh crores is done through religious pilgrimages. In the year 2022-23, the
central government received a revenue of 19,34,706 crores from temples.
In India, a country with more than 20 lakh temples, 8
crore people are associated with the tourism and travel industry. Due to which,
today the government of the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is also
working in a planned manner to strengthen this temple economy.
Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Mahakal Lok for Mahakaleshwar
Jyotirling, Kashi Corridor for Kashi Vishwanath, Temple renovation and
Shankaracharya Sthal in Kedarnath, Ekatma Dham in Omkareshwar, renovation of
Sharda Peeth in Kashmir, Kailash Darshan in Uttarakhand etc. are the
commendable works done under this temple economy through which the state is
getting economic benefits and the possibilities of business and employment have
also increased in these areas.
Temples were considered only as centers of faith but they
have become the reason for livelihood of crores of people. Small industries
like flowers, oil, clothing, perfumery etc. are developed from temples, along
with this there is progress in the field of travel (transport and travel), rest
house (hotel), medicine etc.
The value of land in the area around temples also
increases due to which the business of land also becomes golden. Through
temples, the paths of preservation and promotion of art, culture and education
also open up which is itself an excellent business.
Today the whole world is aware of this temple economy and
the temple construction happening at the global level is a living example of
this. While countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Laos etc. are contributing
partially to their economy by establishing grand temples symbolizing Indian
culture as tourist places, in the last few years countries like United States
of America, Britain etc. have also built temples by following this system of
India and other countries are also moving ahead in this line.
Temples are centers of spiritual energy but by
considering them as tourist centers also, we not only improve the economy, but
also germinate the seeds of glorious culture and sanskar in the person who
connects with that pilgrimage place. Today India is progressing, Indianness is
being propagated, religion is spreading, the world is becoming eternal and the
awareness of self is being awakened, then the reason for this is the value
point of culture i.e. temples and the religious, social and economic
development happening through them.
The way India is progressing in the 'Temple Economy' can
be called.
